MS Excel 2013 x32 Crash Issue during data filtering and PIVOT Table calculations RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Team,

I'm Siva from MAZDA Australia, we've just deployed Windows 10 (x64 ENT) on Dell XPS 15 laptops (entirely new fleet of 160 units)

We've got multiple staff are reporting wide spread Excel (MS Office 2013 32 bit)crash issue during filtering and pivot Table calculations

We've been managing this issue by disabling the hardware acceleration on the registry level  sacrificing bit of performance

    1. Run regedit (Win + R ; "regedit")

    2. Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common

    3. Create a New Key and name it "Graphics"

    4. Select Graphics, right-click on the right panel and create a New DWORD (32-bit) Valueand name it DisableHardwareAcceleration.

    5. Enter Value data as 1

Any help would be greatley apprciated

    Kind Regards
    Siva

Dell Technical Support (Level 3) based in Sydney has advised us to contact Microsoft as below

    ************DELL AUSTRALIA RESPONSE******************************************************************

We’ve had a further look into the errors occurring and initial findings point to the following Microsoft articles: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3066990 - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-excel/clear-all-filters-crashes-excel-2013/a53a8d6a-25cb-4307-9519-784f77ee128e?page=4

As discussed on our weekly call circa 28th of July, it was suggested that Mazda reach out to Microsoft urgently to assist with issues ongoing with Microsoft applications (Excel and Access), as this is not a Dell hardware related issue. Has this engagement with Microsoft taken place? If so, what was the outcome?

  • Hi Siva,

    >>We've got multiple staff are reporting wide spread Excel (MS Office 2013 32 bit)crash issue during filtering and pivot Table calculations << Did this issue appear in a particular file? Or all kinds of Excel files?

Based on the error message, did Excel file contain any macro codes or formulas?

First I suggest you try to open file in safe mode, running the following command: Press Win + R, type " excel /safe" in the blank box, press Enter. If it works fine in safe mode, please check the add-ins in your excel and disable them.

Then you can try to install the latest updates for Office and Windows.

Please try these methods first and let me know the result, please provide more information about your problem.

    I'm glad to help you.
