How to fasten backup file to tape? - DPM 2010 RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hi All,

Currently, I have DPM 2010 running on my server and the DPM protects hundreds of data source. Some are directly saved to disk , some to tape and the rest approach D2D2T method.

What I am currently facing is backup my 70 data sources to tape.  ( The size of each data source is about hundreds GB.).

I found it slow while processing backup to tape and of course, all backup process will be delayed.

I'd like to know how to fasten the backup process?

    FYI, I have 2 drives available and 35 tapes ( 16 LTO5 ,18 LTO4 and  1 Cleaning Tape).

    Many Thanks,

    Hery

  • I'm not doing backup to tape directly, only B2D2T. What I have done to speed up the backup to tape process is not running any IO heavy backup jobs on the weekend in order to have the most possible IO available for my tape backup. Maybe your jobs are competing too much for disk IO which slows down your tape jobs. Also you should check if your network bandwidth is high enough.
