Default behavior of "Turn off Data Execution prevention for explorer" on Windows 7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • This is regarding the default behavior of Setting located at: Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates,  Windows Components, Turn off Data Execution prevention for explorer when it is not configured

This setting description does not state what is the behavior if a user does not configure it. Description of most settings have the default behavior mentioned

Will the behavior for 'Turn off Data Execution prevention for explorer' effectively be the same as if the setting is set to Enabled or Disabled? The one-liner description states that certain legacy plug-in applications will work without terminating Explorer if DEP for explorer is disabled.

Please provide ideas how to trigger this setting to act, so that I can determine the behavior for the not configured case

  • If you do not configure this policy, by default Data Execution Prevention for Windows Explorer works.
