How to change default search mode in SharePoint 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We want to change the default search mode used in SharePoint 2010 while querying FAST index. The search mode used by default is "simpleall" (AND). We want to change this default mode to "simpleany" (OR) but couldn't find any parameter in core results webpart properties to change it.

In "Advanced" search, we have a dropdown containing different modes (And,Or) but we can't find any such option while performing simple search. Is there any way to change the default search mode ?

  • Hi Ankie,

The default search mode is not FQL "simpleall", it's SharePoint Keyword syntax, which happens to put an "AND" between all the words, similar to all popular search engines.

And over to you question, you cannot change this behavior as it happens in the kql->fql translation stage in the query pipeline. And this stage is not something we have access to.

If you want to change the behavior you will have to create your own core results web part and implement the logic. The easiest would be to modify the query and add an " OR " between all the term.
