App-V 5 Application runs once then errors RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Experts,

I'm running an App-V 5.0 SP1 Management Server and Publishing Server on Server 2012 R2. My Sequencer and Client are App-V 5.0 SP2 from the current MDOP 2013 R2.

The target systems are all running TrendMicro Antivirus, but I'm not sure, if that could be related, as the applications can run once. I'm afraid I can't uninstall or deactivate the AntiVirus in the case :-(

I can sequence applications fine and run them once on any given system. But as soon as the application has been run once, it cannot be run on any system anymore. It errors out with the message:

"A Problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program" then when clicking close the program, a new error message pops up: "The application was unable to start correctly (0x00000005). Click OK to close the application"

In this case, it's FireFox, but the problem isn't related to the sequenced app - it happens to all app-v applications. If I export the sequenced app to my lab environment, the application works fine and does not through any errors.

Here are the event viewer logs:

Please consult AppV Client Event Log for more details.

A virtual application could not be launched from package '' because the App-V Client Service is not running. Start the App-V Client Service and try again.

    Any Ideas?

    Cheers,

    Fred

  • Hello everyone,

I was able to verify, that the problem was infact, the App-V 5.0 SP2 Client. I could reproduce this behaviour in our lab environment and confirm, that this only happen, when using an App-V 5.0 SP2 Client or SP2 RDS Client.

Everything works fine when using an App-V 5.0 SP1 Client.

    Best Regards,

    Fred

  • Fred, have you had time to test with hotfix 2 already? I am curious if it helps in your case, as I have some similar issues with Adobe Reader 11, but I am using hotfix 2 already.

  • same issue, rds client 5.0 sp2 with hotfix has the issue with firefox as outlined, removing the package and remounting the package solves the issue for the next user then the problem occurs.

  • If you are using app-v with Citrix provisioning services ensure you choose cache type of ram with spillover to disk. My problem was related to Aslr: http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX139627

  • Hey Robert,

sorry for the long delay - I haven't worked with the environment in which this happend for a long time. It seems though, as if the problem is reoccuring, as I've been contacted to have a look. At this point, I'm assuming layer 8. None the less, I will look into the patch level and see if Hotfix 2 has been installed or not. I'll also check for what Andrew wrote - thanks for that.

I'll post the results here, when I have the time - promise :-)

    Best Regards,

    Fred
