Tweakings on download manager of Proclarity RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

In my company we are deploying Proclarity Web standard and Proclarity Web Professional, in version 6.3.2215.318. I am testing the Components feature, which seems wery interesting as it simplifies the deployement of the client part, add-ins  and patches.

However the system administrators did not grant the install rights to most users and do not want to change that. Instead, they have a deployment program available on each workstation that launches trusted exe and setup files stored on a server with a system account. The Proclarity components will be stored and available in this way.

Is there a way to keep the Proclarity download manager so that it checks for the correct version, but, instead of dowload a file, it just displays a message such as "Lauch this program which will install the correct version" without dowloading anything (in fact an other software will do that) ? Maybe with some tweakings on the XML deployment file with each component ? Is there an available syntax for this XML file anywhere ?

    Thanks in advance

  • The download manager is a compiled dll, so in order to alter its behavior, the dll would need to be re-compiled.  The XML file is just a component information file used when publishing a component to the PAS instance for download.

However, PAS will distribute custom software components (see the topic "Distribute custom applications" in the PAS Admin guide).  It may be possible to develop a small package to distribute from PAS that would either run the exe you mention on the user's machine, or would be the exe itself that the users would then run instead of a ProClarity install.
