Exchange 2003 Management Pack Question RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I was wondering if anyone know if there is a pre-defined rule / montor that will allow me to track if my queues on my exchange servers have pending messages.  What I'm looking for is one that I can specifically create an override saying when queue lenght reaches X number of messages send me an alert.  I'm looking through the forrest of Exchange MP, but can't see the trees!  :)

    Thanks in advance.

  • This is done either via Self-Tuning Thresholds monitors or static "consecutive samples over threshold" monitors. There is an Appendix: Self Tuning Threshold Monitors in the MP Guide which lists these.

There are a number of queue-based counters for the MTA and the Information Store, for example the MSExchangeIS/Send Queue Size/_Total counter is tracked via a consecutive samples over threshold monitor and has a default value of 500 (it checks the counter every 5 minutes and alerts if the counter has been above the thresold 3 times, you can change the threshold if you like).

  • You can see a MP dump for the exchange MP here http://www.opsmanjam.com/OpsManJam%20Library/Forms/MP%20folder%20view.aspx?RootFolder=%2fOpsManJam%20Library%2fMPViewer%20Dumps&FolderCTID=&View=%7b28F6035C%2d64EB%2d43DD%2dAE64%2d039B5C85A626%7d to see if there is a rule or monitor that seems to be looking at what you want. I know there are some queue monitors as default in the Exchange MP. There are info about them in the Exchange MP guide too.
