Problem with add application to Build & Capture TS - error 0x80004005 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

From few days I'm trying create TS with Build & Capture. Everything going fine till... I will add any MSI package. I have tried many apps and every time it stops on stage "Install application" - error 0x80004005.

I have checked SMSTS.log and there is only something like this:

"Error during application installation - unknown error 0x80004005".

Did you met with something similar in your environments?

  • Hi,

I have found reason and solution of my problem. Reason was missing... IP range boundaries. For devices which are not connected to AD domain, that is problem :-) beacuse it can't find DP with content.

I have added IP range boundaries and point it to correct Distribution Point serve and... it works!

    Thank you for all advice's.

  • With so little information I can only guess.. assuming your machine is in a workgroup, an often forgotten thing is the SMSMP property during the client installation. Please make sure that it's configured and set to the FQDN.

  • Yes, Peter. Machine is in Workgroup. And I have added this property before I started :-(

  • In that case, if you want some more help, please provide more information about your environment, about your configuration, about your task sequence, about the information in the log file..

  • Sure,

CAS + Primary site server (with DP, State Migration Point, MP roles).

    SCCM 2012 R2 Sp1

My task sequence is Build and Capture TS, build by SCCM wizzard. I'm testing Windows 10 deployment. Only changes which I have added to TS is copy SMSTS.log on share if error appear - nothing more.

TS I have tested by deploy on Unknown computers first and special created Build & Capture Collection (where I have imported device via MAC).

When I disable in TS record with application deployment, then whole process of capturing image works perfectly. I have tested on few applications in MSI (CutePDF, 7-Zip, Picassa).

If I should add something more - that shout. I will add missing info then.

  • Is there more information in the SMSTS.log file?

  • No - unfortunately not. There is only "Unknown error" :-(

Yesterday I have made a few more tests (some of them are stupid but... you know - I'm "blind in the fog" now so I trying catch something...):

    1. I have deployed application from Task Sequence (TS) to collection where I have deployed TS. - not works

    2. I have next checked option "Distribute the content for this package to preffered DP" and "Automatically download content when packages are assigned to DP" - result that same

    3. "Install for system", "Whether or not a user is logged on" and "Hidden". - result again this same.

Aha - one more thing. Of course I have checked option "Allow this application to be installed from Install Application task sequence actions without being deployed".

I have no idea what next I can check... :-(

  • This is also the reason for the error XYZ package is not available on Distribution point even if it is targeted on DP.
