bginfo and Server Core 2019 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Does bginfo support for Server core 2019? as we are not able to set it. nor we are getting any error via cmd prompt. But we do receive exit code -1073741515 via automation.

  • Hi M-Rahul.

As you know, Windows Server Core has no GUI, which is necessary for BgInfo to work.

    Bye.

This statement is dead wrong. BgInfo does not need a GUI in order to function.

The x64 version of BGInfo works fine on server 2019 core if you copy oledlg.dll from System32 of a full install and place it next to the .exe. Seems this .dll dependency was introduced in one of the 4.2x releases.

BGInfo is even more useful on server core. because of the minimal GUI its even more important to have important information available at a glance when an admin needs to login to the console.
