Restoring from backup

Question
-
I have an Exchange server 2010 running on SBS 2011.
Due to hard drives failing, I had to restore from backup.
First, i restored from an image that was created on 9 Oct. After that, emails started flowing in from our spam filtering system, so I also have emails from 17-18 Oct. I'm missing the week in between.
I have that data in a separate backup.
If I restore it, would it go in together with the newer items, or will it delete them?
How should I resolve this situation?

Hi
When you say you restored an image, is this a snapshot of the entire exchange server? If so this is not supported. You should have recovered exchange by using the /recover switch and created a recovery DB.

Hi,
As Edward suggested, we can refer to the following documents to create recovery database and restore data using a recovery database.

- No DON'T restore the new backup over the existing EDB or you will overwrite your existing EDB and will lose data
- What you want to do is either do an RDB recovery and then extract/restore the missing data
Check out this article http://exchangeserverpro.com/exchange-2010-mailbox-database-backup-restore-windows-server-backup/
The above should server you well, however, if you want to check out 3rd party products to resolve this check out DigiScope below
Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline Exchange Mailbox and Public Folder EDB's and Live Exchange Servers or Import/Migrate direct from Offline EDB to Any Production Exchange Server, even cross version i.e. 2003 --> 2007 --> 2010 --> 2013 --> 2016 with Lucid8's DigiScope http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp
