Managing O365 Updates with Sccm CB 1606 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All

We are testing the management of office 365 client updates using sccm 1606.
For this we have followed all the required prerequisites:
    In AD:...
    1. Downloaded the latest 32 bit ADM template(4423-1000_en-us) for Office 2016.
    2. Enabled “Office 365 client management” policy setting.
    3. Update Channel has been set to “Current”.
    4. Applied the GPO on client machine.
    Sccm Server Side:
    1. Deployed the latest Current channel, Version 1607 (Build 7167.2040) to the machine.
    2. Made the deployment as available.
    3. But the client update does not appear in Software Center.
    4. And the machine is shown as compliant in the Deployment Status (on sccm server)
We are using 32 bit version of Office 365 ProPlus (16.0.7070.2036 – Current Channel) in our environment. So downloaded the 32 bit ADM template.
So can you please advise me if we are missing any prereq. Asistance will be really appreciated.

  • On the computers that have the Office 365 client installed, the Office COM object is enabled.

Starting with 1606, you can enable this setting with Client Settings in ConfigMgr.

To my knowledge, there is currently a known issue with downloading O365 updates though. You may need to go in and manually download the updates in the update package by right-clicking on the package and choosing download.

  • Hi Sharad

We have already followed that article but as explained above, we received no success.

  • Dear Sir,

Is the update package successfully synced to Configuration Manager console? If so, could you try to perform a update compliance scan and check the compliance status.

As stated in the link, you need to install Administrative Template files on the clients which have Office 365 clients installed.

On the computers that have the Office 365 client installed, the Office COM object is enabled.

    Best regards

    Frank

  • The client update was already downloaded.

But as suggested by you I have downloaded the client update by right clicking the update in software update group. But the result was same(No success.)

  • Not sure what client update you are talking about -- do you mean the O365 update?

Also, what version of O365 is currently installed on the system you are deploying to?

  • Yes I am talking about O365 Client Update (Current Channel) only.

We are using 32 bit version of Office 365 ProPlus (16.0.7070.2036 – Current Channel) in our environment.

Deployed the latest Current channel(32 bit), Version 1607 (Build 7167.2040) to the machine.
