  • The fastest way to get the upgrade is to download the ISO.  An ISO is like a dvd so to use it you will need to right click>mount.

WARNING:  DO NOT USE THESE TO DO A CLEAN INSTALL (until after you have already updated).  If you do you will not be able to activate it unless you have previously upgraded to win 10 and activated it.  You then will be forced to re-install your previous OS before upgrading to win 10

The Official Final Windows 10 download is now available

Use the download tool to create ISO media to update your windows.

You have to wait for your turn. Imagine how many million users are in line for an upgrade ?

If you do not want to wait any longer, here is a tutorial showing you how to download the Windows 10 ISO :

    http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/9230-windows-10-iso-download.html

(Note : the tutorial is derived from a Windows article Media Creation Tool. I gave you the tutorial because it is illustrative and precise. It shows you how to download the ISO and nothing else. )

After you have the ISO, right click at the ISO file you have created > click Mount > click Setup.exe.
Installation will begin. It will allow you to either keep your files, settings and apps, or you can choose to " keep nothing ".
This method does not require product key.

I used this method to install my Windows 10 Pro from my Win 8.1.1 Pro.

  • It is not sufficient to just say "wait your turn". The Please Wait window does not disappear. meanwhile it is chewing up a big chunk of my CPU waiting. At times the CPU consumption is above 10% on my tablet PC. ISO download is not an option when lacking a DVD drive.

Is there anywhere in my first reply referring to using a DVD drive ?

Care to read my reply again ?

  • OK ...

What happens if Windows needs to restart during the installation process ?

In any case, this is incidental to the main issue, which is GWX just runs forever.

So, let it restart. Installation of new Windows OS usually requires several restarts.

My reply is to the OP, johnnysmoke.

You jumped in and added your " main issue ".
