AD Extend Schema RRS feed

  • Question

  • Customer’s AD is 2003, and they already extend AD Schema when installing SMS.

Now they’d like to migrate to SCCM 2007 R2, do they need to extend AD schema again? Thanks.

  • You're in the wrong forum. This is ConfigMgr 2012. In my opinion you should always deploy the latest technology (ie. ConfigMgr 2012 - not a 6 year old product that will soon be end of life). Yes, you should extend the schema.

  • Migrating to 2007 now doesn't sound like a good plan to me.

Your customer should consider moving to 2012.

Are you aware about the product lifecycle and the mainstream support ends in a few months?

  • Customer decide to migrate to CM 2012 R2.

So they still need to extend schema right?  (they use AD 2003)

  • Another question is after CM 2012 R2 installed.

if AD upgrade to 2008R2 in the future, do they need to re-install CM 2012 R2?

  • No need to reinstall. Upgrading the forest/domain level to a higher level does not impact ConfigMgr.
