Start menu stopped working RRS feed

  • Question

  • Start Menu is not working and then Microsoft Office word/excel stopped working and then disappeared. I can't open another user account because i can't get into settings  so please don't ask me to do that. The only option I see is to revert to Windows 7. The problem is I upgraded to 10 from Windows 8 not 7.

  • Open a powershell administrator command line and run this command:

    “Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}”

    If it doesn't help then:

    You may use DISM Command:

    I) Press Windows + x on your keyboard.

ii) Select Command prompt (Admin) to open Administrator Command Prompt .

iii) In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following commands. Press the Enter key after each command:
         dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
         dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Which version of Office are you using? You may try repairing Office. If that doesn't help then you have to reinstall Office.

  • Hi nmgbell,

Is it available to operate the machine?

If it is available to operate the machine then we could take S.Sengupta` suggestion to have a check. Please ensure the machine has got the latest updates.

If it is not available to operate the machine, we could keep pressing "Shift" and restart the machine.
"Troubleshoot", "Advanced",  "Go back to previous version".
Do the upgrade again to have a check, please create another administrator account before we do the upgrade in case we will come across the similar issue again.

    Best regards
