End User Recovery not working on DPM 2019 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear concern,

I am using SCDPM 2019. I had configured and enabled the End user recovery but when I logged in a workstation I didn't see any recovery files in the previous versions tab. My volume shadow copy also disabled in this workstation.

    Thanks,

    Babu

  • End User Recovery is not supported with DPM 2019 and MBS anymore.

DPM 2019 does not support file server end user recovery with Modern Backup Storage (MBS)
Description: DPM 2019 does not support end user recovery with Modern Backup Storage (MBS).
Workaround: None. File Server EUR is not supported when using MBS.

  • Hi Babu,

As Matej stated, End User Recovery (EUR) is not supported on Modern Backup Storage (MBS).

EUR has not been supported since DPM 2016, as it was the first version that started using MBS, DPM 2019 also uses MBS, which means that EUR is not supported.

You can find this information in the DPM release notes here:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/system-center/dpm/dpm-release-notes?view=sc-dpm-2019#dpm-2019-does-not-support-file-server-end-user-recovery-with-modern-backup-storage-mbs

    Best regards,
    Leon

  • If you have for example upgraded from DPM 2012 R2 and still have protected items left from that version, you can perform EUR because those backups are still stored on old storage (disks, not volumes).

But when you add new protected items to back up in DPM 2016 or DPM 2019, they will automatically start using the MBS, so unfortunately there is no option to use EUR.
