RD Web Access URL redirection RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am providing external access to our RD Gateway and RD Web Access.  This is working correctly however there is one change I would like to make.

At the moment to access web access the following url is required https://remote.mycompany.com/rdweb.   I'd like to simply use https://remote.mycompany.com

If I set the redirection in IIS (with HTTP Redirect) it works but subsequently breaks RD Gateway (as its address is remote.mycompany.com)

How can I make this change without breaking RD Gateway?  This is for a 2008 R2 environment with ISA sitting in front of it.

  • Yeah, I noticed the same thing.  What I did, on the regular port 80 (HTTP) site, was do a redirect.

So when somebody types in:  http://remote.mycompany.com  it auto redirects them to https://remote.mycompany.com/rdweb

This just makes it easy on my users since IE defaults to HTTP.  Some people still don't under what typing https: in front of an address does.  most people just type remote.mycompany.com in their address, they don't even put the HTTP in it.  But since browsers default to HTTP it works for us and gets them to the correct RDweb page.

  • Sorry I took so long to reply.  Your suggestion worked.  I was trying to redirect to http rather than https.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

EDIT:  Unfortunately I have found that this breaks RD Gateway external access (via ISA).

  • Not much help I'm afraid.  RD Gateway and the isa config works just fine as long as I don't try to do the redirection to /rdweb.

  • Hello Falcc,

Do you mean that the ISA HTTPS-HTTP and HTTPS-HTTPS works correctly when you use /rdweb to /rdweb, but when use are trying to use <URL> to <URL>/rdweb, the RD Gateway functions are broken.

Is that true? We’d like to confirm this and check if we can do further test and investigate for you. Thanks.

  • Hi Lionel,

I have ISA redirecting all to https.  With this configuration it works ok if I don't attempt to have IIS redirect for https from url to /rdweb.  If I turn that on it breaks RD Gateway.  Does that makes sense?
