Change default port to connect to WU Web site RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I know that the default ports for WSUS server to connect to windows update web sites are 80 and 443. But is there any way for us to change those ports to some random ports like: 66655?

    Thank you!

  • Hi supaFlaj,

You may check if the following method could work:

In the IIS Manager, WSUS site bindings, change the http port and https port (the example below is on server 2012R2, use default port 8530 for http and port 8531 for https):

After changing, restart the IIS, in the WSUS URL on client side, please append the port number, for example: http://wsusname:66655 ,check if it could work.

    Best Regards,

    Anne

  • Hi,

Thank you for your suggestion, but I don't need to change port on IIS. I would like to know, if I close ports 80 and 443 on firewall, what is the other way to connect to MS Update site (besides creating exceptions)?

  • If you block port 80 & 443, you will not access these port through network.....

  • Hi supaFlaj,

The source port is defined by the Source site, since you mean the port connect to MS Update Site, then, we can't change it.

    Best Regards,

    Anne
