Project Server 2016 email notifications RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all.

As far as I can see, there's no configuration of email notifications in Project Server 2016 beyond enabling them as a checkbox. I'm assuming that SharePoint handles all outgoing email including PWA's however I cannot find any details about it in TechNet.

I have a SharePoint 2016 farm with a PWA instance. I have configured outgoing email settings in SharePoint Central Admin and enabled PWA notifications, however users are not receiving emails from PWA as we did in 2013 or 2010. Manually sending emails by Powershell works fine using the very same settings.

Any thoughts on this will be very appreciated.

  • SharePoint Central is where email is configured.

Once email is configure in SharePoint Central you will find that project server email configuration can be configure as well.

Go to SharePoint Central Admin and click on "General Application Settings" then PWA Settings to Manage.  LOok under the Operations Policies and click "Alerts and REminders" to setup email for project.

  • 1. Messages send by w3wp (running under the web app pool service account) were delivered
    2. Messages sent by OWSTIMER (running under the farm account) were not delivered.  The timer job in question is “job-immediate-alerts.”

Temp solution was to create a separate receive connector in Exchange on a separate port scoped so to only the SharePoint server’s IP that allows only anonymous authentication (it seems that by having Exchange Authentication checked, SharePoint fails).  This causes the Exchange server to never prompt the SharePoint server for STMP authentication, and therefore messages are delivered
