Can't combine excel files in Power Query RRS feed

  • Question

  • Two excel files, in a folder, no restrictions, both with two columns, :

    - Date
    - Qty

    Few rows...

Try to combine with Powerquery (excel 2016)

    Scenario 01:

    Data are formatted as tables.

When combining binaries get this error:

DataFormat.Error: External table is not in the expected format

    Scenario 02:

Same files, without data formatted as tables, but same data, same structure.

When combining binaries get this error:

DataFormat.Error: The input couldn't be recognized as valid Excel document.

At the end of the day no combine...

    Thanks

  • Hi TR. Do these files work if you try to import just one of them into PQ? Or do you get the same error?

Also, what file extension do they use? xlsx? xls? xlsb?

Finally, when you try to combine them, do you see this error in a popup (above the Query Editor), or in the Query Editor itself? (A screenshot would be helpful.)

    Thanks,

    Ehren

  • Hi there. It sounds like your version of Power Query may be out of date. Can you let me know the exact version of Excel 2016 you're on?

    Thanks,

    Ehren

  • Hi Ehren.

    Office 365 Pro Plus

    Version 1609 (7369.2127)

Checked for update now: it says last version of Office installed.

    Thanks

    TR
