As far as I know, you need to define a simple URL, otherwise Lync may not work properly.
Simple URL can make it easier for your users to join meetings, and administrators can more easily use Skype for Business Server management tools. Skype for Business Server supports the following three simple URLs: Meet, Dial-In, and Admin. You are required
to set up simple URLs for Meet and Dial-In, and the Admin simple URL is optional.
