Exchange 2010 SP2 and Exchange 2003 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I wanted to know if there is any problems with upgrading to Exchange 2010 Service Pack 2 while you still have a legacy Exchange 2003 environment running.  My concern comes from a bad experience I had witnessed with a specific Rollup patch.  The problem it created was it wouldn't allow you to migrate mailboxes from the 2003 environment over to 2010.  Microsoft found the problem, but it took months for them to write a hotfix.  This crippled the 2003 to 2010 migration I was involved in at the time.

Currently I'm running Exchange 2010SP1RU1.  This seemed to be the happy spot for compatibility with our XMedius Fax, Blackberries, and the new Archive Manager 4.5 we have planned to implement.  Quest just released Archive Manager 4.6 which added support for Service Pack 2.  However, it set the minimum at SP1RU6.

Because of the bad experience in the past, I'm hesitant to load either RU6, or Service Pack 2 until we have completely left 2003 in the dust.  The way its set up currently, we haven't had a single issue from either side (2003 or 2010).

What is the consensus on the community regarding this?

  • I'm not aware of any major issues with 2010 SP2 RU1 coexisting with 2003 SP2.

  • Hello The Phoenix, I am currently working on a project migrating from an Exchange Server 2003 to an Exchange Server 2010 SP1. At mid-project we updated to server to SP2 and we have continued moving mailboxes with no problems at all.

    Regards.
