Export OLE Objects to File RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have inherited an access 2003 application that stores photos within an access databse in an OLE Object column. I have been tasked with retrieving these photos of unknown out of the access database to be stored in a folder.

When I open up the table that they are stored in, they are displayed as MSPhotoEd.3.  Is there a method that can be used to export every photo from this table and store it as file with filename from another column in the table?

I tried the utility here, http://www.lebans.com/oletodisk.htm and it was able to export a few of the photos, but many of them are not exported as the objectType on several on the majority of them are 'OT_LINK'. Even though they are marked as OT_LINK, they also have an embedded file as the link does not point to a live file and it still appears as a photo when used in an access form.

  • I don't use Access, but in other Office apps (eg Word, Excel), you can break links. Perhaps doing that will allow you to export the photos.
