Hyperlink to December CU sent by hotfix@microsoft.com does not work (404) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I requested the December (2011) CU for Project Server 2007 from MS Update Center and when I got the email and launched the hyperlink, I got a 404 Website Not Found error.

  • I had the same issue for the last 3 days.  I determined the link was good, the problem was with the distribution node [64.4.11.26] that my hotfixv4.microsoft.com requests were going to.

To fix it, I queried another external DNS server and received the IP of a different node [207.46.232.182] that services those requests.  After overriding my hosts file with that IP, I was able to get my download.

  • Thanks for this, I am sure this is the answer - until they get their act together, that is.

  • Korey,

Thanks for your reply, however, adding that IP to my hosts file didn't work for me.

How did you query DNS for an alternate IP address?

  • This problem extends to all the Dec CU links for MOPS 2007 and the Oct 2011 CU links don't work either.

Microsoft: any word on when these will be available?

  • Bill, I specified one of Google's public DNS servers (8.8.8.8) in an nslookup of the FQDN used in the hotfix download link.  In my case, that was hotfixv4.microsoft.com.

      nslookup hotfixv4.microsoft.com 8.8.8.8

This returned a different IP than what my DNS was returning so I overrode that by adding the following to my hosts file

      207.46.232.182 hotfixv4.microsoft.com
