2016 RDS Web Access & RDS Gateway RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a Windows Server 2016 with RDS Web Access and RDS Gateway services only installed. This is so several people can reach stheir desktops at work from their home pc's. When those two roles only are installed the Server Manager doesn't put all the pieces into the console under "Remote Desktop Services" to finish tasks. I only want these roles in and don't need or want session or VDI desktops.  It works internally fine but when trying to put a certificate in for external use it always come up saying "private key not found". Ideas?

Also, would like a confirmation if RDS User/Device cals are required with only these two roles in use?

  • Hi,

Did you import the certificate and its private key into the Local Computer\ Personal store?  You may use certlm.msc for this, or RD Gateway Manager.  If you see the certificate and its private key are there in the personal store in certlm.msc, you may want to verify that the permissions are correct by right-clicking on the certificate and choosing Manage private keys.  Normally its administrators and SYSTEM with full control and NETWORK SERVICE has read.

Yes, RDS license is required for each human/device.
