web app created by Share Point are secure ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Does the web app created by share point. Can they be made secure, I do see options of SSL (secure socket layer).

And what does the SSL do ? Does it provide secure information going through the web by not allowing interception ?

  • Hi Johnseito,

SSL basically allows browser to authenticate web server and it also encrypts the data between the web server and browser. Yes it provides secure information going through web.

Scenarios where you want to use SSL are authentications so that transmission of your claims between browser and server is encrypted.

In order to configure SSL your going to need a certification from certification authority like GoDaddy or you can create your own self signed certification for dev and test environment. Here are few links for your references -

After you receive the certificate from ca then you need to add the certificate in all web servers in the farm.

  • Hi Johnseito11.

A SharePoint environment (and all the contents within) is secure as long as you put in place a comprehensive strategy to make it that: this includes applying patches, granting only appropriate permissions and enabling additional protection features (such as SSL). You can find some guidelines about securing a SharePoint environment at https://sharegate.com/blog/10-ways-make-sharepoint-secure.
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser; this link ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and integral.
You can read here to know how to configure SSL on SharePoint 2013.

    Bye.
