  • Question

  • In Outlook 2010, there are many letters in the folder Inbox. A few days ago, something happened to the computer, it was necessary to clean it from viruses. Today I have opened application and I have seen: File Tomn94.pst could not be accessed. Data error. Cyclic redundancy check. Till today I haven’t seen such errors, I don't know how to repair large PST file.

  • Hi Jonathan,

This error may occur when your PST file is corrupted. To resolve this issue, first check your hard disk for errors, and then re-create your personal folder file. See the following Microsoft KB article for more details:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/319128/you-may-receive-a-data-error-cyclic-redundancy-check-error-message-in-outlook

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi,

There are various causes by which your Outlook 2010 gives "Tomn94.pst could not be accessed.Data error. Cyclic redundancy check. Some of them are-

    1) Sudden power failure
    2) Bad or improper Internet connection
    3) Corruption of PST files.

You can repair these issues by using free utility Scanpst.exe which is also known as Inbox Repair tool. But this tool has some limitation. It can repair only minor level corruption such as header issues.

Note:  As you know, all Outlook PST files are stored on the Hard disk drive. So, this error may be occurred because of corruption in the Hard disk. Here, there are some manual ways to recognize this error:

  • In event of your .pst file is huge, more than 10-20GB in size. Then you of course could try ScanPST, but variety that it doesn’t help is very high. For your situation, you need something like https://recoverytoolbox.com/faq-outlook-repair-big-pst-file.html because it owns supporting of huge .pst files.
