Cannot copy VM to Azure RRS feed

  • Question

  • This is a problem which I have been trying to resolve for months, without success.

I've deployed a multi-tenant private cloud using System Center 2012 R2 (with all the latest updates).  In particular, VMM, App Controller, and Windows Azure Pack.  All of which work fine together.

Where I'm running into problems is trying to copy a stored VM to my Azure subscription using App Controller.

In monitoring the network traffic it is clear the VHDs are being copied to Azure.  However, after the VM is copied, I get a rather useless "timeout" error.  However, in looking at the Event Log, there are a couple of suspicious entries in the CloudManager -> Infrastructure -> Operational.  The first two, when the copy starts are:

Request Failed By Provider. RequestID: a38983a0-4c8b-4e3a-aa9f-892126ff4297 InputUrl: /api/cloudsystems/SC_VMM01.mycloud.lab/userroles/MPTest/permissions InputVerb: GET User: MYCLOUD\mpilant ProviderUrl: MYCLOUD\mpilant ProviderVerb: http://localhost:18622/vmm/cloudsystems/SC_VMM01.mycloud.lab/userroles/MPTest/permissions?cloud=first-guid HttpStatusCode: GET ExceptionDetails: 404

Request Failed By Provider. RequestID: f71f42b0-7f27-4047-88b5-fd527eb53d9c InputUrl: /api/cloudsystems/SC_VMM01.mycloud.lab/userroles/MPTest/permissions InputVerb: GET User: MYCLOUD\mpilant ProviderUrl: MYCLOUD\mpilant ProviderVerb: http://localhost:18622/vmm/cloudsystems/SC_VMM01.mycloud.lab/userroles/MPTest/permissions?cloud=second-guid HttpStatusCode: GET ExceptionDetails: 404

after the copy has completed, and as the error is generated, the final entry is:

Request Failed By Provider. RequestID: 067b9cdf-f16b-4c07-8601-a675fdc95209 InputUrl: /api/cloudsystems/management.core.windows.net/clouds/azure-subscription-guid/hostedservices/PilantAzureTest/deployments/Production/roles InputVerb: POST User: MYCLOUD\mpilant ProviderUrl: MYCLOUD\mpilant ProviderVerb: http://localhost:18622/azure/cloudsystems/management.core.windows.net/clouds/azure-subscription-guid/hostedservices/PilantAzureTest/deployments/Production/roles HttpStatusCode: POST ExceptionDetails: 500

Unfortunately, I have looked in just about all the logs I can find, but there doesn't appear to be any definitive information to help me diagnose any of these errors.  I'm pretty confident they are permission related, but there also doesn't appear to be much information available about troubleshooting permission errors in VMM and App Controller.
