Windows 7 random restarts RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hey all,

I work at a school and have set up about 30 computers running windows 7 x86 Enterprise. Every now and again (like when people are in the middle of important work!) some of the computers will simply restart.

I get an event ID: 1074 with the message -
    "The process C:\Windows\system32\wbem\wmipvrse.exe (computername) has
initiated the restart of computer "computer name" on behalf of user NT
    AUTHORITY\SYSTEM for the following reason:
No title for this reason could be found.
    Reason code: 0x80070015"

I've been told it could be my WSUS but that has been offline for some time (thats another issue) and i've unticked auto restart on error.

Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Cheers!

  • Hi,

I would like you to know if the process wmiprvse.exe is stopped, the computer will restart. The issue is mostly caused by third party software or viruses. Please refer to the following ways to check the result.

    1. Scan viruses with the security software.

    http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

    2. Check if the computer is installed Adobe, if so, temp remove it.

    3. Test the issue in Safe Mode and Clean Boot.

If the issue persists, please let me know the event log details.

    Best Regards,

    Niki
