Linked servers cannot be used under impersonation without a mapping for the impersonated login RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a  job with a below step and the owner of the job is lason\dhvr.

It has a stored procedure that utilizes a linked server and it is 3rd step in that job.I am getting below error when this 3rd step executes.

Executed as user: lason\dhvr. Linked servers cannot be used under impersonation without a mapping for the impersonated login. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 7437).  The step failed.

At linked server security option we have selected below option.

Be made using the login's current security context

I had checked at source server and linked server i didn't find the login lason\dhvr under security.

Kindly suggest me to fix this issue and how to make the job successful.

  • Could you please let me know which remote user i have to give here.

The remote user must be an SQL login. I would suugest that you create one specifically for this task.

  • add a login mapping for the user executing the job (either sql agent job by default or proxy account you created and configured would be the one executing job step).

Just map the login to a valid login and password created in your server pointed by linked server connection with sufficient privileges and it will work

  • The linked server didn't have any username and password at security option.

Could you please let me know which remote user i have to give here.
