Space Required RRS feed

  • Question

  • How much space is generally normal for WSUS Updates with regular deleting of superseded updates?  I am being told 100 GB should be enough, but am fighting no space to download every month.  I have declined all that I could and still do not have room to download.

  • Hello,

    Glad to help.

As Leon said, how much space WSUS content take up depends on the classifications and products you choose. Personally, I would leave at least 200 GB of space for WSUS content.

1> How to avoid unnecessary space occupation by WSUS content?

    • Remove unneeded classifications and products and languages.
    • Do not download Express Installation Files.
    • Select "Download update files to this server only when updates are approved", and only approve updates which are needed by clients.

2> What to do if WSUS content already grows too much?

    • Move WSUS content to a new local location or NAS having enough space. You could use "wsusutil.exe movecontent" commands to do that.
    • Clean up the WSUS content. Note that declining do not remove the update files automatically, you could use built-in Server Cleanup Wizard or script to do it. I post a link below.
    • You could reset your WSUS content via "WSUSUtil.exe reset" command, it would re-download the approved updates.
