Constant bluescreen crashes on Windows 7... Please help! RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello!

So anyone can put up with the odd BSoD crash, but when you get three or four a day on a (nearly) new PC it's enough to turn even the most mild-mannered person violent. Any help with this would be sincerely appreciated. Here is the info I get each time:

    Problem signature:
      Problem Event Name:    BlueScreen
      OS Version:    6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
      Locale ID:    2057

    Additional information about the problem:

      OS Version:    6_1_7600
      Service Pack:    0_0
      Product:    256_1

Files that help describe the problem:

I tried deleting everything and starting all over again with a clean install of windows, but the crashes just started up the same as ever.

    Thanks in advance, Sam

  •  Hi,

Can you zip up the files in C:\Windows\Minidump and post them to
    skydrive for further analysis:

My first guess is that you have a problematic driver that either needs
to be upgraded or downgraded, but I can give you more specific guidance
after analyzing the crash dumps. More info on the error:

    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

  • Hi Mike

Phew! Ok, I think I've managed to zip up and post the minidump files on Skydrive, but it took me pretty much to the limit of my computing capabilities. I'm afraid this is what you're dealing with!

Anyway I have tried to embed the links below as described in your blog. This one is for the public folder:

    <iframe title ="Preview" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" frameborder="0" style="width:98px;height:115px;padding:0;background-color:#fcfcfc;" src="http://cid-a43ed7b391cf21e0.office.live.com/embedicon.aspx/Public"></iframe>

This one is for the actual minidump file:

    <iframe title ="Preview" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" frameborder="0" style="width:98px;height:115px;padding:0;background-color:#fcfcfc;" src="http://cid-a43ed7b391cf21e0.office.live.com/embedicon.aspx/Public/Minidump.zip"></iframe>

They don't look like the sort of links I'm used to, but hopefully you'll know what to do with them!

Many, many thanks for your help on this.

  • Actually, looking at it again there do seem to be normal-looking links lurking in there:

    http://cid-a43ed7b391cf21e0.office.live.com/embedicon.aspx/Public

    http://cid-a43ed7b391cf21e0.office.live.com/embedicon.aspx/Public/Minidump.zip

These are probably a bit more useful!

  •  There are two revisions of your particular motherboard and I cannot
tell from the dump which one you have (but it does appear that you have
a custom built computer, so whoever built it might be able to tell you).
I would ensure that you have the latest/correct drivers for your system
    installed:

I scanned through Microsoft Support and I didn't find any mention of a
hotfix for usbport.sys, the driver that has been traced to the issue.

It is possible that a USB device is causing the issue. I would start by
unplugging all of the USB devices (besides a basic mounse/keyboard) and
see if the error recurs. If it does not, add the USB devices back one at
a time to see if you can isolate the device that is causing the issue.
If you identify one or more devices that seem to be causing the issue, I
would then check with the vendor(s) to determine if they have a driver
for the device, otherwise I would discontinue use of the device.

If you get a crash and you only have a keyboard and mouse plugged in, I
would enable the driver verifier (using verifier.exe) for all of the
drivers on the system and then post back any dumps that are produced (as
    they may be more informative).

Note that if your system hangs when Windows starts due to the verifier,
then you can boot into safe mode and disable it. (also using the
    verifier.exe utility, specifically verifier.exe /reset)

  • Also, there is a good likelihood that the problematic driver is the AF15BDA.sys which is dated Apr. 29, 2008 and may not be compatible with Windows 7.

The AF15BDA.sys appears to be a driver for a USB DVB-T receiver.

The same driver appeared to cause the same blue screen in the following link:

    http://www.pchelpforum.com/windows-vista-7/94931-blue-screen-death-caused-usbport-sys-hal-dll.html

    So try updating that driver.

The following link appears to have Windows 7 compliant drivers (v 9.603.1):

  • Hello again, and thanks to both of you for your help.

I've contacted the pc manufacturer to see if they can tell me which motherboard I'm using, hopefully they'll get back to me. I haven't really got any external usb devices, except for a hard drive which I got after all these problems started to back up my files. Oh and a printer. I'll unplug them both and see if this helps.

This AF15BDA.sys driver is for a K-World PCI TV Tuner I think, I've been on their website and updated the driver to a Win7 one. No crashes yet, but it's only been half an hour... I'll post back if / when anything happens.

    Thanks again!

    Sam

  • Hi Mike/All

Can you please check out my minidump file and tell my what is wrong with my windows OS. I have zipped all my June dmp files. The problem has only occurred recently into an install that I have been running for close to a year.

    Thanks in advance

  • I looked at all of the dumps and the majority of them showed that you
likely have one or more bad DIMMs. The ones that were not directly
memory   related (bug code 1a below) gave clues that they were due to
memory problems. Please see if memtest86+ throws any errors when running
    a longer test (>4-5 hrs).

  • Thanks Mike

I will do a memtest like you suggested and report back the results

    Friday, October 29, 2010 7:46 AM
  • Mike

You were spot on. 2 of my 4 sticks were buggered. Errors came up in 1000's on test 2. Thanks for all your help

  • Mike

I was wondering if you could analyse these dump files on a relatively new reinstall of Windows 7 on my laptop.
