Getting rid of vista and Installing XP...PLEASE HELP!!!! RRS feed

    I just purchased a new laptop with vista preinstalled. I hate it and want it gone. Can I use a windows XP cd from a different laptop to install xp? There are no files on the laptop....I just want the XP operating system. Will that CD and product key work on a completely different computer? Or does microsoft not allow that? Any help would be appreciated.

    The XP cd for the other laptop is only good for that laptop. You would need to purchase a retail XP to load onto that new laptop.

    ^correct.

    an oem licence is tied to the machine; unlike the rtm, which is tied to the person. u will need to buy a new one.
