External meeting only work with Skype Web App RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have Sfb. Not federation with other company.

When Microsoft send as to us a meeting like https://join.microsoft.com/meet/xxxx/xxxxx, we open it and PC Skype Client joins to meeting.....(NOT web App)

When We send a meeting to Microsoft like https://meet.contoso.com/meet/xxxx/xxxxx, Microsoft open it and PC Skype Client doesn't join to meeting. If they use Web App, it works.....On Microsoft PC Skype Client, i can see "1005;reason="Cannot route to destination domain"

When an company Internal User sends a meeting to company external user like https://meet.contoso.com/meet/xxxx/xxxxx , external user can open it and PC Skype Client joins to meeting.....(NOT web App)

    Any idea ??

  • More information:

    - We don't have any external SRV records....we have a Host record lyncdiscover.contoso.com point to SfB External web services

    - We have 6 Edge DNS Host records....with 2x3....(2 x av.contoso.com, 2 x edge.contoso.com, 2 x webcon.contoso.com)

Is there necessary any extra record on my situation ??

  • You have to enable federation for this scenario to work. There is no way around it. It is by design.

My recommendation would be to enable federation but block all domains except those specifically allowed.  You can then allow on a per domain basis with your partner orgs.

  • We have SfB on premises...not online....i think is different situation...

  • I assumed you were on premise based on your FE + Edge description. Statement still holds. Long story short, since you do not have a federation route, SIP messages will not be routed via Edge and you will not have a way to get to the other environment. So it will always fail.

  • I suppose that skype web app works because it only uses proxy...not? Does audio and video go throught proxy or edge in this situation?

  • It goes via HTTPS through the target environment - I'm pretty sure. But think you should do some tracing and research just to confirm.

Can however tell you it bypasses your SfB environment completely.
