File Rename Problems on XP RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

When i save a PDF doc from my scanner and want to change the name to identify it for a particular folder, i get a box appearing stating: 'If you change a file name extension, the file may become unusable. Are you sure you want to change it?'

This only seems to happen with scanned docs i want to rename.

If i press 'Yes', then the PDF logo changes to a small windows type box and if i opened it i can only open it if i locate the programme seperately to allow for it to open!!

Does anybody know why this is happening, it doesn't seems to happen on my laptop or other desktop, only this one!

    Regards,

    Mark

  • Hi,

After checking the issue, it seems this is a general Windows XP related issue. As this forum focuses on Windows Vista specific issues, this inquiry would best be posted to Windows XP forum:

The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us.  Thank you for your understanding.

Meanwhile, I would like to share some information:

First let us show the extension of the file by the following method:

In Windows Explorer, Click Organize->Folder and search options, under the View tab, uncheck the box before "Hide extensions for known file types", click OK to apply the settings. Then go to the PDF file you will notice all the file ended with .pdf as extension. If you want to rename the file, leave the .pdf unchanged.

    Hope it helps.
