MIM 2016 - Portal Connectivity after IIS bindings RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am currently following the MIM 2016 handbook by David Steadman and Jeff Ingalls. After adding the bindings for the password portals, whenever I try to get to the main MIM portal, it seems to get stuck in the "Waiting...." loop.

I have tried removing all of the bindings and accessing the MIM Portal again but it just seems to be hanging.

I'm not sure why it has stopped working - both the registration and reset portal were accessible without issues and are still accessible via http after removing the https bindings.

Is there anything I can try to sort this out - i'm fearing a complete rebuild again (I've done this 5 times now!)

    Hope someone can help.

    Many thanks,

    Stephen

  • Hi Nosh,

Never mind, I've managed to get it working.

I re-ran the Service and Portal installation again. Re-entering the user account credentials for the accounts I created "svc-mimservice" and "svc-mimsync" during the installation wizard and low and behold the portal is now running again after a reboot.

I noticed an error in event viewer relating to login failures for the SQL server database so decided to re-run the installation again (as mentioned above) and the portal is now showing again.

Thanks again for all your thoughts.

    Kind regards,

    Stephen

  • Stephen,

I am not familiar with those guides, but try adding the sites to the trusted sites and if that does not work, can you share some screen shots?
Also, what do you mean by "Binding"?  Please try to provide some steps of how and where the error occurs

  • Hi Nosh,

I already have the site added to trusted sites.

The "Bindings" are done in IIS. So I have bound SSL certificate to both the rest and register portals so that they are only accessible via https.

Basically it's as if the MIM portal is stuck in a loop of some sort.

It worked perfectly before I added the bindings in IIS. I have since removed these and it is just stuck "Waiting"...

I'm still waiting on my account being verified before I can post screenshots.

    Very frustrating.

    Any help appreciated

  • So your issue is not with FIM, but IIS.  I cant tell you what has gone wrong, but an IIS Reset should be in order.

  • Thanks - I've tried that too. Still digging about for clues.

I think it may have something to do with the application pool associated with the portal site. Not sure why when it worked earlier.

If I get it resolved I'll update this post. Otherwise, it'll be a call to Microsoft I think.

Thanks for your suggestions so far.

  • If I can see your environment, I am sure I can fix it, but it is a bit hard to guess.  If you are interested, send me your email and I can contact you offline.
