Cannot access the internet from a virtual server RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a windows 8 workstation in 192.168.50.xx network and it can get to the internet without a problem.  I have created two 2008r2 servers in 192.168.49.xx network both have a subnet of 255.255.255.0 and neither of them can get to the network.  How do I let the virtual servers access the internet?

  • First, if you have Win8, you should post questions in the Win8 forum here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w8itprovirt/threads

This forum is for Virtual Server 2005, it's end of life.

You have a simple routing issue.  You have your VMs on different subnets, isolating them from each other.

You need to have a router that can pass the traffic from the .50 to the .49 subnets, or you could your subnet mask so that they are in the same subnet, one to use a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0.  However, that may cause issues for the rest of the .50 network.

Also, why are you using 2 different subnets?  Why not have them on the same one?

  • two separate domains. Windows 8 is in one domain and 2008r2 is in a different domain

  • Regardless, they are on different networks.  You need to create a route between them.
