SharePoint 2007 - auto logoff RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I have a requirement to logoff an user (Active directory) automatically after inactivity of certain time (lets say 10 min). Windows authentication is enabled on the web site. I tried the below options without luck.

    1. Changed the connection timeout on IIS website settings
    2. Changed cookies timeout on Session State property of the IIS website settings.
    3. Changed the session state value in central administration.
    4. Changed the web application "Security validation" timeout

    5. Changed Session timeout value in web.config

nothing helped me out. any suggestions?

I do see that I can insert javascript timer in the master page and redirect to singout page on timing out. But i prefer to have this auto logoff feature using IIS / web application settings instead of coding.

    Regards, Sujasree

  • What is supposed to happen when the user is logged off?

As you are using Windows Authentication, my assumption is there is no user-involved log on procedure. That is, when users browse to your SharePoint site, they are logged on automatically without any prompt. This is by design.

So this makes me wonder,  how do you know if a user is logged in or logged out if when they hit refresh or click a link they are seamlessly logged in again?
