Configuration Slowing Internet Speeds RRS feed

  • Question

  • Can Windows 7 or Windows 2008 Server configuration cause internet dowload speeds to decrease?

Quick scenario: Completely changed out old hardware with new; Dell Precision T3500 workstations (Windows 7), and new server is Dell Poweredge T310 (Windows Server 2008 Standard).

Since the switch, internet download speed has hiccups, and pages take long times to load. AT&T DSL tech support said there are no problems with their connection and router configurations are correct. Before the switch, there were no known issues.

Is there something I can check, change, or fix?

  • Alternative solution you can try

gpedit.msc > network > Qos scheduler > limit bandwidth, enable it and set it to 0 because by default Microsoft set 1500 kbps for downloading of windows patches :) go get a WAN media accelerator to mount it in your current infra. Else you can also try packetshaper. Shape your network. :)
