Unable to connect to wmi service on remote machine RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm using VAMT 2.0 to activate (via KMS) several products. I have it working for Office 2010 Pro Plus but it has stopped working for Vista. The license keys are present in VAMT but they won't connect through to confirm the amount of license we have available.

The main issue is that when I'm trying to retrieve the status of the computers it gives the error "Unable to connect to wmi service on remote machine". We're on a domain network which does not connect to the internet except in exceptional circumstances (windows updates etc). The domain is GPMS controlled so any changes that need to be made or suggested need to take this into account.

I can give further information if required.

    Any help is happily received.

  • This issue is due the firewall blocking the WMI queries done to the remote machine by the VAMT tool. The firewall should have exception for WMI. May try using a GPO instead of manually changing it on all the machine, in which allow connection on Port 135 (on which WMI works).

    Thanks,
