Change Install Location of (x86) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there a way to change the default install location for x86 programs? I dont want them to go into C:\Program Files (x86), but rather into C:\Program Files

  • You could... but you could break things big time requiring a clean install. 64bit program go into C:\Program Files\ and 32bit programs go into C:\Program Files (x86)\ by design.  You could always force to go to the 64bit folder, but not wise.

  • Mind if I ask why you want to make this change? Aesthetics or a technical reason?

  • There are some scripts/batch files and customizations that would need to be changed to reference the new path.

For instance, after we install Bentley's Microstation, we extract some of our custom files to C:\Program Files\Bentley...etc

Well, if it gets installed to C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\ that would obviously be a problem.
