  • hi. i reloaded our file server to server 2012 r2 loaded the dpm agent and got this error message when i tried to modify the protection group. i am still running the rtm version of scdpm 2012 r2.

  • Hi Karl,

    This is probably the "System Reserved" or "Recovery" partition.

    That strange name on the volume like \\?\Volume{GUID}\  is actually the name of the volume.
    Open a "Run"-window (Windows-button + R), put in the name and press enter. This will open the volume in Windows Explorer and you can browse its contents.

    If, after pressing "Close" button, you can see resources you would like to protect, then everything fine, don't mind this error - it doesn't mean something's wrong, you can safely ignore that. As Markus described above, it's usually about system volumes which you protect via BMR only, and in BMR case, SCDPM doesn't need an access to such volumes to successfully protect them.
