Dual boot RRS feed

  • Question

    Hi,

I'm trying to set up a laptop with Vista installed to dual boot with XP. I've created a partition within Vista to install XP on. However when I reboot with the XP install CD I get the prompt to install XP but I then get an error saying that no drives are visible! although these are visible under Vista. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

Please follow up with information about hard disk info and partitions (File system, capacity, ATA or SATA...)

    Thank you

  • Ahmhdy,

It will be  a few days until I can have another look at this problem, so I'll get the info to you then.

    Thanks

    Ron

  • XP probably doesn't have appropriate drivers for the hard disk controller. You'd need to make an 'F6' disk and use it to add drivers to Windows during setup.

Note that installing XP after Vista will almost certainly corrupt the Vista bootloader and you'll probably need to perform a repair install of Vista to recover it.
