Windows Updates fails with Steady State installed RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I thought I had this issue fixed, but evidently not.

I have a machine running XP SP2. Windows Update works fine (updating from our WSUS server) at the time alotted (Wednesdays @ 5am). Once I install Steady State and have it take control of the updates I get the following error in the event viewer "Automatic updates failed while trying to run Microsoft Updates." and no updates are applied. If I turn off Steady State's control of updates, they work again. I need to have it on however so the updates will be applied with Disk protection on.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to why Steady State is breaking Windows Update?

  • Hi cgoodwin, I'd like to inform you that most likely Automatic Updates should not be affected by installing or using Windows SteadyState. Automatic Updates issue can be caused by several factors including BITS service, corrupted update components, etc and we may need to check the WindowsUpdate log for detailed error. I recommend you contact our Windows Update support group regarding the issue:

    Hope this helps!

  • I'd have to agree with you except that updates runs just fine until I let Steady State take control, at which time I get the "Automatic Updates failed while trying to run Microsoft Updates". As soon as I turn off Steady State control of updates it runs fine again.

I have already posted on the Windows Update forum and they told me to post here -

    Thanks again.
