Site Owners unable to delete a site RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I have a strange problem. There is a user in site owner group, when this user click on "Delete this site" link under site settings, user get re-directed to access denied page. I checked the permission for the site owner group it is "Full control" still user is re-directed to access denied page. Has anyone come across such a situation.

    Regards,

    RK

  • Please read this for your info:

    Activities of the Site Owner:
1- Adding, removing users and setting their permissions
2- Creating and customizing lists and document libraries
3- Changing the appearance of a site using themes and Master Pages and setting navigation options
     4- Creating sub-sites and workspaces
5- Modifying pages by adding and configuring web parts
     6- Creating web pages
     7- Monitoring site usage

    Hope that helps.

  • If my understanding is right, Site Owners does not have rights to delete a site even though they have full control. Full control means control on lists/library.

It is the site collection administrator who can delete the site.

  • Hi RK,

According to your description of the problem, it may be caused by one of the following situation:

1.If the site you want to delete has subsites, you will be not allowed to delete the site before deleting its subsites.

2.Do the following to perform the review: launch SharePoint Central Administration, click Application Management, click Policy for Web application under the Application Security section .The Policy for Web application page is displayed. Maybe you have assigned permissions for your site owner. If the policy denies the user rights, the user has no rights, regardless of any object level rights.

You can also check the logs in 12/Logs directory. If the log is used for a couple of minutes, it should be easier to read and this may give you a better pointer as to which permission is missing.

Let us know if there are any misunderstanding on this issue.

    Regards,

    Cindy
