Restrict Timesheet functionality to a discrete population RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have just been asked a question which I am unable to answer definitively as I do not have access to Project Server 2010 at the moment.

It is possible to have a discrete population of users within Project Server 2010 be able to use Timesheets when the majority of users are expressly excluded from using Timesheets?

My hunch is that by designing a group and category this could be achieved but my concerns are what would happen with the Reminder Web Part on the home page, would it alert people to Timesheets when they are excluded from using this functionality?

Would it be possible to have the Timesheet link URL on the Quick Lauch Toolbar/Menu (the element that can be modified from within Server Settings>Look and Feel) be only visible to the intended "Audience"?

  • Certainly it would be possible to limit this by a Group usage, the View Timesheets permission is the one you need.  I'm not sure how the reminders web part works out if you have a timesheet to submit...  You could though the timesheet reminders functionality for the webpart for all users...., or not assign those resources to task (presumably you have some valid reason for them not submitting timesheets).  Perhaps an investigation into Assignmet owner might help here.
