BranchCache with Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 7 SP1 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello there,

I'm having a simple question for you...

We are planning to configure BranchCache for our branch office to limit bandwith to the headquarters.

    This is our specification:

A file server \\ServerA at the headquarters with features BranchCache enable

A Windows 7 SP1 \\Workstation in branch office with BranchCache enable

The question is if user when connecting to the network a logon script is running, connecting a specific folder on the server A in our headquarters (\\ServerA\folder).

Now by configuring BranchCache in Distributed cache mode do we need to change the logon script to reflect the new location (cache) of that specific folder on \\Workstation\folder??

The same question occur if we decide to use Hosted cache mode with a server in the branch office?

    Best regards,

  • No, you don't need to do that - it's all transparent.

You DO need to make sure that offline files is working though because BranchCache uses that feature.

  • Good day Phil,

Thank you for you answer...so I only need to add this feature over our file server (Headquarters), configure the client or the server on our branch office and it should work properly without changing drive letter connected into our login script!

    Best regards Phil
