WSUS/SCCM SUP Clean-Up Strategy & Maintenance RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • This applies to both WSUS servers and also SUP (Software Update Point) servers in SCCM. Have been in several projects and setups where the WSUS doesnt have any clean-up tasks or strategies in place so i created one to share which should help give a maintenance plan to ensure they are healhy www.walshamsolutions.com/SCCM-WSUS-Cleanup-WSUS-Strategy-maintenance

Will eventually get this into the Technet Wiki pages but i need to get more points in order to gain privileges so in the meantime i have them on my website

  • Have you heard of WSUS Automated Maintenance (WAM) - it does more than what you're talking about, all automated. It used to be called Adamj Clean-WSUS but I re-branded it.

You can visit my 8 part blog series on How to Setup, Manage, and Maintain WSUS - https://www.ajtek.ca/wsus/how-to-setup-manage-and-maintain-wsus-part-1-choosing-your-server-os/

Part 8 deals with the Maintenance proceedings that should be done on a routine basis and gives you the official ConfigMgr team's page to the The complete guide to Microsoft WSUS and Configuration Manager SUP maintenance.

As SCCM takes it's data from WSUS, maintaining WSUS is key. If you only have WSUS, maintaining it, but also setup is key for WaaS - with all the group policies. In my network, I just approved the Upgrade to my test group and already I have some systems that have received it (and the users chose to restart during the day as they wanted it, otherwise, it would restart after hours)

  • Just had a little read through - I like it :)
The blog I did was more of like a semi-automated way and strategy, also had a fully automated way using Orchestrator and SQL but this looks good
Especially handy for a lot of customers going through the express files issues with the metadata ripping through bandwidth and churning the WSUS servers!
