Security of Microsoft R in a Corporate IT Environment RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear colleagues

My company is very interested in providing Microsoft's R distribution to users.

However, our head of IT has still some security concerns.

Could you please be so kind and provide some information on the security aspects of Microsoft's R distribution, particularly with regard to data theft (company data being uploaded/stolen from our laptops and servers)?

    Many thanks and best regards

  • Hi Jan

Microsoft R Open is built on top of CRAN-R and thus we rely on the security that is provided by the package authors that are included. For the portion that Microsoft owns we follow the security guidelines that Microsoft follow to make this secure for our users. For the CRAN-R packages that we include we expect the package author to fix it and in general they do.
