VPN and Local File/Printer Sharing Problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • At my home I use a VPN connection to a server at my workplace.  When this connection is open I am unable to share files and printers between my home desktop and laptop.  Each connection works independently but they won't work together.  When I suspend my internet security program it still occurs.  Using XP Pro SP3.

Any ideas what could be causing the conflict?  Thanks

  • I suggest you check VPN connection settings:

    1. Right click on VPN Connection you use and select "Properties".

    2. Go to "Networking" tab.

    3. Select "Internet Protocol (TCP\IP)" from list and click "Properties".

    4. Click "Advanced" button.

    5. Untick "Use default gateway on remote network" and click "Ok".

    6. Close all opened windows by clicking "Ok" to save and apply new setting.

Connect or Reconnect your VPN connection and check if local shares are working.

  • Thanks for the response.  I check the setting and the box is already unchecked.  Any other thoughts?

As an aside, I corresponded with Actiontec (use a PK5000) and they didn't think it could be the modem.

    Any other thoughts?  Thanks much....
