Tips for rebuilding exchange server 2007 to recover a critical mailbox RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear All,

We used to run exchange server 2007 before 8 years ,we migrated to exchange 2010 and now we have again migrated to 2013,we only have exchange 2010 and 2013 running in co-existence now, exchange 2007 is no more in our environment, but we have to very urgent and critical requirement for restoring a mailbox from exchange 2007 tape backup taken from Symantec back exec.

As per my knowledge we cannot restore a 2007 mailbox database to exchange 2010 or 2013,so i have planned to create an new exchange infrastructure, isolating my production network,i am planning to create an AD and Exchange on same server

i just wanted to know any recommended and if there are any thing that are to be taken in consideration ,before i do this .

Not much, except the lab Exchange org will have to be the same exact name.

Otherwise, what you are doing is essentially database portability.

Be sure to have the same Exchange 2007 SP or greater installed as the original

I have always found the hardest part is the restore with cross forest permissions and such...

THere is also 3rd party software of course that will negate the requirement to build a lab.
